How To Change Your Ways

Have you ever known a person who led a raunchy life and then became a Christian? One of my friends had a nasty mouth. Bad language was his mode of speaking. His wife convinced him to attend a Bible class with her and the teacher shared the gospel. The Lord opened his understanding to what Jesus had done for him, and he prayed to invited Jesus into his heart. He didn't feel different so assumed nothing happened.

The next day he went to the small air port where he kept his private plane. It had needed some repairs and he wanted to test it. Just as the plane began to climb the pilot seat slid backwards and with much difficulty and many curses he managed to keep the plane in the air. When it and he settled into smooth flight he heard himself say, "Excuse me, Lord. I'm sorry I said those bad word." At that moment he knew he had become a Christian when he prayed the night before!

Only God can change our old way of living. He did it by placing us in Christ when He was crucified.(You can read about this in Romans chapter six.) "Sin's power over us was broken when we became Christians and were placed in Jesus Christ. Through His death the power of your sinful nature was shattered" (Romans 6:3)

When Jesus died, the Father counted all who believe as dying with Him. He did this so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. "Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, He cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over Him. The death He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life He lives, He lives to God. In the same way count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus." (Romans 6:6-7)

When you will recognize sinful actions in your life confess it to God. Your life will change for the better just as my friend did. Old sinful habits will be put away.

Memory Verse: "Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires" (Romans 6:12)

Prayer: Praise God from whom all blessing flow! Praise Father, Son and Holy Spirit! Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift of righteousness freely given to all who receive Jesus the Savior into their heart!
